Evan Centopani Signs Multi-Year Contract with Prime Nutrition

Let me preface this announcement by saying that I’m not presumptuous enough to believe that everyone is actually interested in the details of my daily life. However, I know there are people who will consider this newsworthy and want to know the details. That considered, I feel there is no person better suited to deliver this news and everything that should accompany it than me. Besides, I wouldn’t want it any other way!
  
As many of you know, I have called Universal Nutrition my home since the beginning of my bodybuilding career. Starting with them as an amateur in early 2007, I believe that our time working together produced a lot of great things. Whether I was speaking with fans in The Cage, at expos across the world, at ABC events or on their Forum, I sincerely enjoyed building relationships with those who love bodybuilding as much as I do. Being afforded this opportunity is something I truly appreciate. Additionally, I have nothing but respect for a company that never once asked me to speak anything but my sincere feelings about their products and the role they played in my bodybuilding success. Never being asked to compromise my integrity or devalue my word is something for which I will be forever grateful to Universal Nutrition. - Evan Centopani.

WOW, I can't believe this is happen! I never would've thought that Evan would leave Universal Nutrition/Animal. I know he was the face of the company for years but Prime Nutrition offered Evan something I guess Animal/Universal Nutrition couldn't do. Having creavity input in the products. Plus, one of his best friends, PJ Braun is the President of Prime Nutrition and that may have some weight behind this move. Best of luck to Evan and his future endeavours with Prime Nutrition. Universal Nutrition/Animal will have the new face for their company soon. I think it's going to be Antoine Valliant or maybe someone else. We will see.

R.I.P. Matt Duval

Today I received some very sad news from multiple sources regarding former IFBB professional bodybuilder Mat Duvall, who apparently was found dead in his bathroom. Matt was only 40 years old. At this point, the cause of his death is a mystery but, as the details come in, we’ll keep the site updated.

Mat was one of the last true stars of the NPC. He had fans all over the world who would attend show, follow him on the internet and anxiously check out the results of the NPC national level shows each year just to see how Mat placed. He ended up getting his pro card in 2003 by winning the Overall at NPC Nationals. His IFBB Pro career was disappointing for Mat, as he never placed well. He later retired from bodybuilding to pursue a career in professional wrestling.

If you grew up reading the muscle magazines in the 1990's and early 2000's like me, then there is absolutely no way you could forget Mat’s ads for Muscletech. This behemouth of a man, with arms the size of my waist, doing seated overhead dumbbell extentions with 100 pound dumbbells was truly a sight to see!

I recently met Mat for the first time at a show in Florida with Dave Palumbo. Dave and Mat were long time friends and, even though they hadn’t seen each other in a while, they would quickly pick right back up where they left off. Mat seemed to be in good spirits at the time and he told us about some new exciting business ventures he was involved in. He still seemed to love bodybuilding.

Rest in peace, Mat.

Steve Silverman After the 2012 NPC Nationals Prejudging!

I'm happy for Steve that he got his pro card. He placed 2nd in the Middleweights & I know he wanted to be 1st but now, he's a pro. Now, he's got some stiff competition at the 212 stage & I can't wait to see what show he does.

Victor Martinez Seriously Injured

Have you ever heard the saying,”If he didn’t have bad luck, he’d have no luck at all.”? It seems like that saying was specifically written for IFBB Pro Victor Martinez. Today, I was able to confirm that the former Arnold Classic Champion was seriously injured during a photo shoot in Mexico.

Multiple reliable sources have told me that Victor was in the middle of a "make-believe" arm wrestling match when his opponent thought it would be humorous to spontaneously slam Victor’s arm down; winning the match. That slam resulted in three serious breaks in Victor’s arm.

I won’t detail all of Victor’s previous misfortunes, but many of the people I have talked to think that this may be the final straw on Vic’s bodybuilding career. Personally, I doubt that. We just watched Victor transform from a skinny prisoner to a 270lb monster within a matter of weeks... And we saw Branch Warren go from a torn quad to the Arnold Classic Champion in a matter of months. I’m betting Victor overcomes adversity AGAIN, and we see him back on stage in 2013. - Aaron Singerman

Another bad break for Victor. He gets no breaks (no pun intended) but you always hear something going on with Victor. I know he'll overcome this circumstance & we'll see him on the Bodybuilding stage soon. Godspeed Victor.

2011 IFBB Jacksonville Pro Final Video Wrapup with Palumbo & Jewbacca!

Dexter Jackson put on a great event with VIP/backstage access. Some celebrities in the house: 8x Mr. Olympia Lee Haney, Toney Freeman, who's working with Dave Palumbo for the Europa Dallas show, 5x Fitness Olympia Adela Garcia showcasing her routine & Clarence De Vis who guest posed & was supposed to compete in this show but he was almost 30 lbs overweight. Back to the show, Vaughn Ettienne blew everyone away. He shocked many people with his conditioning & took 1st place. Guy Cisternino placed 2nd & put on some great muscle mass & conditioned. Branden Ray placed 3rd & looked better at the finals than prejudging. All the guys are heading to the Olympia. Mike Valentino got 4th & looked better in the finals & I've seen him with better conditioning. Nate Wonsley got 5th & he looked great but the lineup was so good that he couldn't get in the top 3. In figure, Erin Stern placed 1st & looked good & focused on beating Nicole Wilkins Lee. Candice Keene got 2nd & was good but she wasn't as good as her win at the Europa Orlando. Kristen Nagrani looked good & placed 3rd. In bikini, Jamie Baird looked great & got another victory & she might be doing the Phoenix Pro. India Paulino looked awesome & brings her own style to bikini & she placed 2nd. Marisa Lee placed 3rd & shocked many people. No one saw her coming.

Dave loves Vaughn's conditioning & his detail as well. Guy looked awesome at this show. Thick as hell & brought a tremendous package to the stage. The best structure is Branden Ray & if he came in 2-3 lbs less, he'd won this show easily. Mike Valentino was ok but could've been better. Tricky Jackson was a little off & but still looked good. In figure, Erin Stern beats everybody with structure alone. Candice Keene looks good but she'll be in second & Kristen Nagrani placed 3rd & kicked butt out there. In bikini, Jamie Baird looks good to win this show. India Paulino has her own style in bikini & she'll be heading to Olympia & Marisa Lee is shocked the up & she looks like heading to the Olympia too.

Europa Battle of Champions Pre-Judging Wrap-up

PJ says no one was in shape! Marc Lavoie, Troy Alves & Ben White made the top 3. Just watching a little bit in this video, conditioning wasn't there! Johnnie Jackson, Toney Freeman & Will Harris were off. In women bodybuilding, Monique Jones, Kim Perez & Kim Buck were impressive looking. I like Monique winning this show but Tazzie Colomb may have the grainiest condition in this show but she lacks the shape like Monique. In figure, it was hard to pick for figure.

I think Johnnie Jackson, Will Harris & Toney Freeman, Ben White & Troy Alves is my top 5 no particular order.  It's the top 3 who goes in. This is not a loaded lineup but we'll have 3 new people making their way to the Olympia.

I like the fact that Dave calls Akim's shoes, finger shoes aka Vibram Five Fingers. They work great!!! They started at 500, 545, 650. At 650, many people are starting to drop out. Now, they are 700 lbs. One guy is out. Now, only two guys left doing 725. Mark Lerch couldn't do it. Lou Costa beats Mark Lerch of the One Rep Max.
