Explaining Carb Cycling

Carb cycling is a very effective fat loss nutritional strategy which I feel carries multiple benefits and is definitely one of the more intelligent ways to fuel the body for positive body recomposition. There are multiple ways to carb cycle and it will come down to what you as an individual needs ultimately, however the main reasons behind carb cycling and why it's so effective remains much the same.

Before I go any further let me explain briefly what carb cycling is. It's a specific dietary formation which you follow across the week where your carb intake will differ on specific days. Some days will be "low" other days will be "moderate" and some "high." In terms of what is low, moderate or high to you will be completely relative to your weight, body fat levels, activity levels and carb tolerance.

Here are some  the key reasons why carb cycling works for you.

Fighting Stubborn Abdominal Fat

The abdominal region is a very common area where people hold stubborn body fat, some hold it further up their stomach as where others hold it in the lower region of their abdominals around the belly button. This is VERY common, so you're not the only one dealing with this issue.

Here are the 4 KEY factors for you to consider in relation to stubborn body fat in general, which will then also address the fat around your abdominal region.

How Many Calories Are You Eating?

It is very common for people to think that they eat healthily, therefore, they expect to get lean. However, calories are the determining factor ultimately (although they aren't the only factor!!) and you will be surprised how easy it is to overeat!! Calories QUICKLY add up.

Even if you think you know what your eating unless you're actively tracking your food intake it is highly likely you're misjudging your intake somewhere along the line which will then make losing your stubborn fat harder, or impossible.

Start tracking your food again, you might be surprised.

How Lean Are You?

If you aren't reasonably lean (around 12% or below for men and around 22% for women) then you potentially don't need to "refeed" as frequently as you are. It's very common for people to justify a refeed or cheat meal too frequently as where in reality they are just destroying the energy deficit they've created all week.

When you consider it's not uncommon for a cheat meal (pizza, cheeseburger, and fries, takeaway etc.) to contain 2,000+ calories that will quickly devoid a small deficit which you've created throughout the week.

It's generally only those who are lean who need to refeed this aggressively and that doesn't always mean weekly. It will depend on from one individual to the other, however, don't justify it just because you feel like it.

Prescribed Rest Periods

Here are 3 key points which explain why keeping your rest periods to the prescribed number is so important, and how it will slow your progress down if you fail to do so.

1. Energy Systems

The intensity, workload, and rest you take between sets will dictate which energy systems come into play at given times during your working set. You've got 3 major energy systems which are all unique in their own way and to maximize your body composition changes and performance levels it's very important that you train them specifically. The prescribed rest periods can help any training plan specifically target different energy systems at different times.

This means that you're able to improve overall body composition and maximize performance, so do NOT overlook the prescribed rest periods.

Tip of the Day

Don't compare your results to someone else. You can never be another person, you can only be a better version of yourself.

The path to success is full of fences. Be ready to climb.

You'll never get ahead of anyone as long as you try to get even with him. - Lou Holtz

When you walk up to opportunities door, don't knock...Kick it in, smile and introduce yourself. - Dwayne Johnson

Patience is not the ability to wait, but how you act while you're waiting.

BBI Product Review: Brigitte's Naturally Kale Power Smoothie Meals

I'm reviewing Kale Power by Brigitte's Naturally. They have two different versions of their product with/without protein. Kale is the main star of this drink and at first, it was an acquiring taste but once I got past that, it was delicious. It also has mango, banana, pineapple and various of goodies. It's low in calories. 110 calories w/o protein and 90 calories with the protein in the 8 ounces bottles. They do have 16-ounce bottles as well. They use a vegan protein so not a big boost in your daily protein intake but you'll get a lot of fruits and vegetables in your body. It's a blended kale+fruit+superfoods in one drink. No added sugar, dairy free, vegan, soy free, non-GMO, high in Fiber and loaded with Omega-3 Fatty Acids.
