Using A Keto Diet

For some people, they can go high amount of carbs for their diet while others can utilize a higher fat, moderate/low carb approach with sporadic higher carb days. This can come down to multiple factors including your genetics, ability to effectively utilize carbohydrates as an energy source and body type. Body composition is another key consideration because your fat levels and muscle mass percentage will potentially contribute towards your carbohydrate tolerance.

Here's a quick outline some of the pros and cons of a higher fat based diet.

Pros . . .

- Higher fat diets can help those who are carb sensitive maintain lipolysis more easily, which makes fat loss easier

- Higher fat diets can help some people experience better cognitive function if they are prone to suffering from a lethargic feeling after large amounts of carbs

- Higher fat diets can help those who suffer from insulin resistance improve this situation quickly and lead to improved carb tolerance over time IF you use the right protocols.

Ultimately, some people just work better with this sort of set-up.

Cons . . .

- Higher fat diets are sometimes abused and people take in far too much fat, blindly thinking this is how to do a "keto" diet. Remember, calories STILL count!

- Higher fat diets are not always necessary and I find people make themselves believe they can't utilize carbs and just turn to a keto based diet. Therefore, you might mentally feel it can sometimes be a negative plan to follow for some, and sometimes unnecessary.

. Sometimes people who go too low carb for too long can look flat and lose fullness within their muscle.

Some people will feel better on Keto diets and respond better, but a lot of the time people are able to tolerate carbs better than they initially think. Sometimes though this has to be done over a period of time, where you reinstate insulin sensitivity, reverse beta cell dysfunction and gradually train the body to use carbs again.
