What You Didn't Know About Fats and Carbs

The truth is BOTH are very good, have their own merits and can both be useful. The KEY thing is to understand the processes of each macronutrient and the synergy between them both in order to get the most from each of them.

Below I'm going to list few facts for you to gain a better understanding of fats and carbohydrates.

Carbs - .
1. Insulin sensitivity is KEY to using carbohydrates effectively as insulin is required to transport carbohydrates (as well as other nutrients) - which means staying relatively lean, using the correct supplementation and diet protocol,

2. Carbohydrates help make you look "fuller" as they draw water into the muscle

3. Carbohydrates provide a great slow release of energy provided you eat the right forms with the right meal, creating a low glycemic load (unless you deliberately want to spike this for post-workout)

Fats -

1. Fats are great for testosterone production and brain function

2. Fats slow down the digestion of a meal

3. Fats can also be a great source of energy as they are converted to glucose via gluconeogenesis

In terms of synergy between the two nutrients what's really KEY is knowing that they should work as part of an INVERSE relationship. If one goes up typically the other will go down as you are manipulating insulin and glucagon levels, respectively.

Another factor to consider is that when carbs are higher your protein arguably doesn't need to be as high as if you were on a high fat, low carb diet because carbs are by definition "protein sparing." However, there will ALWAYS be variables and exceptions to the rule remember.
