Prevent Being Sick

This time of year it's a pain in the ass for the illnesses, colds and flu which are about. If you catch a virus like many do this time of year, not only is it very unpleasant it's also going to make you miss the gym and go backwards.

Here are 3 things you can do to boost your immune system year round to help decrease the chances of being ill.

1 - Berries

You should fruit in the diet, berries are particularly good for multiple reasons with one of the key points being their ability to boost the immune system. With their very high antioxidant levels and rich dose of Vitamin C they are perfect for keeping you healthy. Blueberries, acai berries and goji berries are all great choices.

2 - Rest properly

The immune system will become less useful as the body becomes worn down, for instance when it is over worked and under rested. This might sound like common sense but over training, skipping sleep and failing to rest properly is a recipe for pushing your immune system into the ground. Get your 6-8 hours sleep per day, switch off 30 minutes before bed to ensure it's of good quality and avoid stimulants close to bed.

3 - Drink water

Staying hydrated is absolutely crucial not only for general health and performance, but also your immune system. Ensuring that your water intake is high enough each day will help flush toxins out of the body with ease and transport important nutrients throughout the body.

I personally use Trader Joe's 1,000 mg 3x/daily (Upon waking, post-workout and bedtime).

P.S. Kiwi fruits are also great for vitamin C, they contain twice as much as an orange! As well, they are great for recovery. Take 1-2 kiwis before bedtime. You can sleep good and replenish your body with some great nutrients.
