Training and Recovery

How often do you feel you should be training?

4 times a week?

5 times a week?

6 times a week?

7 times a week?

Twice a day?

The reality is there's not a right answer here, it comes down to your ability to recover. Recovery is a broad topic as well, covering your CNS, muscle fibers, connective tissues among other things.

The majority of athletes who are training properly, 4-5 times a week lifting is the optimal number. For some, in more extreme cases potentially 6. Having said that, 6 times would be very much the minority and 1-2 of those sessions would be more focused on tension rather than full blown intensity.

If you train too frequently without enough intensity your just creating an environment where your CNS becomes over run and your joints potentially become too sore (and vulnerable to injury). Yet, if you were to train with more intensity less frequently you would see better results AND enjoy better recovery rates.

Yes it comes down to the individual, but recovery really has to be at the forefront of your mind in order to grow. Like I keep reiterating, to grow you must first recover. It always happens in that order without exception.

I've seen very few who are able to recover properly with less than 2-3 days rest per week.
