Food Absorption

You often hear this "you are what you eat." However I actually disagree with this, I feel its specifically "you are what you absorb."

If you think about this logically it doesn't matter how good your diet is IF your body isn't able to absorb those nutrients and utilize them, yes?

Almost everything you do with your diet has the potential to affect the way in which your body is able to absorb nutrients. However, below are the most common factors which are easy enough for you to focus on relatively quickly.

These are -

1. Food types/groups which cause sensitivities within your GI tract. For instance if you have an issue with dairy, consuming it will almost certainly detract from your ability to absorb other nutrients as well as you could. (Dairy is JUST an example, its not necessarily going to be an issue for you). To remedy this you need to remove foods which create this response within your gut.

2. Having insufficient "healthy" bacteria within the gut will almost certainly affect digestive performance. This can particularly be an issue with a high volume of food passing through the gut. This is why I feel supplementing with pre-biotics and pro-biotics are a great idea.

3. Lot of people tend to miss out on getting enough fiber within their diet which as you can imagine, which again detract from gut performance. If you don't have adequate fiber in your diet some foods will pass through your GI tract too quickly not allowing sufficient time for maximal absorption. The diets that should be created are rich in a cross range of soluble and insoluble fibers from the likes of cruciferous vegetables, fruit, nuts and whole grains.

Maybe this is because gut health doesn't sound as interesting or as important to smashing your arms up. Without maximizing your nutrient absorption everything else you do is compromised.
