Here's why.
1.
Cables create create constant tension on the muscle unlike a dumbbell
or barbell would - at no point during the exercise, provided you don't
"stack" the weight is tension lost when using cables. This makes it more
challenging for the muscle and will ultimately equate to more muscle
fiber recruitment.
2.
Cables give you the freedom to create angles
which would be hard to replicate with free weights or machines. This
means you can really pin point an area and drive tension to this
specific area of the muscle.
