Is it worth the risk? (long term health..)

Today I'm going to address exercise selection and why it can be so important to your long term health. Well, and short term.

The lifting culture always pushes big compound exercises, and often the intentions are well meant.

But, there are many reasons why exercises like the bench press, squat and deadlift are not doing you any favors.

More than half the people I see train have mobility issues in their lower back, hip flexors and glutes. This results in a real lack of flexibility in the lower back, which means it will be more vulnerable when loaded. Squats and deadlifts will load it obviously, which can be a recipe for disaster.

Often people struggle with the right form with these movements, this can often be why!

With bench press, a lot of stress it put on the shoulder joint and most people again have issues with mobility within their shoulder joint.

All I can tell you to do is be smart, try and see if an exercise is causing you discomfort. If it is, then learn to get more mobile and then try it again, don't just ignore the pain!
