Mass gainers have a certain
appeal to those who want to build muscle fast for instance, but I think
they are actually a bad idea for MOST people.
1.
Even though you need enough calories to grow you still do
not want excessive amounts because you will get fat. Size means jack
s*** if you are getting too fat. Physiologically it makes no sense
because you will -
. Become more insulin resistant
. Increase aromatisation (testosterone into estrogen)
Not f***ing cool or helpful.
2. Most mass gainers on the market are full of s***. The calorie sources are inferior and are wasted when you could be getting
those from better nutrient sources i.e. real, wholesome food.
Get
this idea out of your head that you need thousands of calories to build
muscle and mass gainers are the only way. This just isn't the case.
Supplementation,
including a quality protein timed release blend & whey isolate are
GREAT. But these have to be used as part of a proper nutritional
strategy as well don't forget. You can actually make your own "mass
gainer" with a
protein powder, by adding oats, fruit & nut butter and blending it.
