Struggling In The Gym

You feel weaker than normal, your muscles aren't "firing" as they normally do and you just feel drained.

Many will just put this down to a bad day, but the reality is that there must be a reason for this to happen. Here are 3 common reasons why we see this happen.

1 - CNS Overload

If your central nervous system (CNS) becomes overloaded it will become fatigued which is going to have a very negative effect on performance in the gym. The CNS is the mechanism used to recruit muscle fibres properly, via motor units. Things like a lack of quality sleep, excessive stimulants, dehydration and poor diet quality all lead to CNS fatigue over time. Make sure that to avoid this you are ticking the boxes above.

2 - Missed meals

By now you should know, you must be eating at high meal frequency for multiple reasons, one of which is the improved control of blood sugar levels you experience with this dietary setup. If you are missing meals, especially before the gym it will lead to a cascade in your blood sugar levels which will ultimately have a negative impact on your overall energy output in the gym. Do not skip meals!

3 - Lack of focus

How many times a week can you say that you are REALLY focused in the gym? If you are not focussed then the chances of you getting the most from your workout are slim to none. You need to gain a mental edge where you're mentally channelled to perform at your peak. This might include listening to the right music, training with the right person and leaving your phone in the car so you are free of distractions! For that hour or so, you should be focused if you're serious about getting the most from your workouts!!
