Recovery is something many misunderstand and overlook.
If you are serious about building muscle then you need to take recovery seriously, otherwise, you'll miss out!
In order for your body to produce more muscle tissue, it must recover properly first, growth simply cannot happen without recovery.
There are multiple areas of recovery we can and will discuss over the coming weeks, but today I want to really address your CNS (central nervous system).
The CNS is HOW you recruit muscle fibers when training. The stress you create will dictate how many fibers are involved, which are recruited by motor units within the CNS. The more stress created, the more recruitment takes place to help deal with the resistance.
Therefore, it is absolutely essential that your CNS is allowed to recover properly. As your CNS dwindles and becomes run down, your ability to build muscle will decline fast!
Here are 3 ways you can help your CNS recover properly.
1. Make sure you use periodization properly. 3-week training cycle, with the training volume (number of working sets changing each week), to ensure your CNS is able to recover properly. This is KEY!
2. Supplement with magnesium before bed (300-400mg) to help relax your CNS during your sleep, which in turns aids general recovery in this context.
3. Focus on training for quality rather than quantity. 4 days a week, and that's more than enough to get the results they want. Training is about getting the results you need and then resting. Some need to train more and have the capacity to do so, but quality over quantity is key to optimising CNS recovery.
Focus on this and you're results will improve!
