Fats are an "essential"
nutrient to the body which means that the body quite simply cannot do
certain things without them. Protein is also "essential" as where carbohydrates are "non-essential."
Fats are essential to your diet for the following reasons
-
1. They facilitate the production of KEY hormones
including testosterone. A diet starved of fat will inevitably lead to
issues on this front, especially whilst in a calorie deficit.
2. They support cognitive function which isn't only essential to day to day productivity it's also key to focus in
the gym and optimizing performance.
3.
They help protect key organs and joints which is of paramount
importance for longevity and again supporting optimal performance.
These are just 3 of MANY essential roles fats play within your body to help demonstrate WHY they need to be in
there.
The amount really depends on the overall composition of your diet, your goals, your age and body type.
However some of my favorite sources of fatty foods are -
1. Almonds/almond butter
2. Brazil nuts
3. Walnuts
4. Avocados
5. Oily
fish
6. Grass fed steak
7. Bison/buffalo
8. Organic eggs
9. Coconut oil
10. Flaxseeds
PS
Make sure the steak IS Grass Fed and the eggs ARE organic as this
increases the Omega 3 content which is crucial for optimized health,
performance, hormone health and insulin
sensitivity.
